The Mediterranean Diet – A Lifestyle

In my work as an event planner, caterer and personal chef, I often receive questions about the Mediterranean diet. What is it exactly and why is it so popular? The truth is that the Mediterranean diet is more than just a list of ingredients: it is a lifestyle.

In 2013, UNESCO listed the diet as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. UNESCO defines it as “a set of skills, knowledge, rituals, symbols and traditions concerning crops, harvesting, fishing, animal husbandry, conservation, processing, cooking, and particularly the sharing and consumption of food. Eating together is the foundation of the cultural identity and continuity of communities throughout the Mediterranean basin. It is a moment of social exchange and communication, an affirmation and renewal of family, group or community identity. The Mediterranean diet emphasizes values of hospitality, neighborliness, intercultural dialogue and creativity, and a way of life guided by respect for diversity.”

Think Italian! Events promotes the Mediterranean diet lifestyle. Would you like to know more about the diet and its benefits? We can assist you through our event planning services, our catering or our food classes; and I can help you personally as food and menu consultant and recipe developer, responding to your specific needs and wishes.
